Water should flow 24/7
When the Origin is full, it should be turned on so that the water is continuously being circulated and cleaned with ozone sanitisation. This is important, as stagnant water is not sanitary.
Best practice
If you’re going on holiday or not using Origin for a prolonged period of time, we recommend draining the bath (and removing the filter and discarding the water inside the filter housing to ensure it's empty) and turning it off at the mains.
Origin’s insulation is powerful, and we recommend keeping the lid on to keep in the cool and ensure Origin is running at its most efficient level.
If your Origin has been switched off for longer than 1 week, you should drain and refill it to ensure there’s no stagnant water in the system.
Monthly (or as needed)
Keeping Monk Origin outdoors
Origin has been designed to be equally at home indoors or outdoors. For protection against UV, debris and nature’s elements, and to safeguard the wooden lid and seat, we strongly advise that you use Origin’s outdoor cover when not in use. When Origin is turned on, unzip the cover's back and fold up the sides to completely expose the grill for airflow.
Origin is not designed for temperatures below 0°C. If the temperature falls below freezing and water isn't circulating, it could freeze, expand, and damage the internal system. Therefore, keep Origin indoors during freezing temperatures, or ensure it is fully drained and turned off.
Extended storage period
For storage of over 2 weeks without use, the tub should be drained (be sure to remove the filter and drain the filter housing too), the inner surface cleaned and the lid fitted. If left outdoors, the outdoor cover should be used. Remove the mains plug from the wall and store away.
Monk Origin's cleaning system
Origin has a dual stage filtration system, with the water continuously circulating through a sediment filter and being infused with ozone sanitisation. The filter’s job is to keep the water clear of physical particles and debris, and the ozone sanitisation’s job is to keep the water free from bacteria and pathogens.
If the filter is overdue a change, or there is a blockage in the flow due to lack of cleaning, or Origin has been left off for a length of time, you will find that the system will not work efficiently and the water become dirty.
The frequency at which you will need to change the filter and the water depends on usage and how much bacteria and debris is introduced into the system. For 1 daily user, we recommend a monthly filter change.
Additional cleaning sources
Your Origin continuously circulates ozone around the water, which is a natural and powerful cleanser. Even with Origin's inbuilt filtration system, you may find some larger pieces and debris can settle at the bottom of the tub. We recommend that you remove these with a standard skimming net.
Every few months, you may wish to give your Origin a deeper clean and wipe down the insides of the tub.
