Let’s get started
First and foremost, we advise that you leave your Monk for at least 12 hours before commencing this set up guide. Like a fridge, we need to ensure your cooling unit settles after transit.
Leave your Monk unplugged while setting up until you’re instructed to power up (we get it, we’re excited too). Please ensure you’ve read our safety information beforehand.
1. Check your Monk’s position
Surface: Your Monk is heavy, especially when full of water. It needs to be sat on a hard and flat surface, where water cannot pool, that’s capable of holding 600kg+.
Space: Your Monk has a vent to the rear of the tub, and it needs a minimum of 30cm of clear space for ventilation, and to ensure you can easily access the components inside.
Signal: Your Monk is WiFi compatible, and this is required for app usage. Please ensure that it is placed within range of a strong WiFi signal.
2. Fill your Monk
Always fill your Monk with fresh tap water, and never fill from a swimming pool. Your Monk comes with a 6m hose. Never turn Monk on unless there is water above the minimum fill line (that’s the lowest of the fill internal fill level lines).
a. Simply connect one end of your hose to a tap, and place the other end securely inside your Monk.
b. Turn on the water supply. Fill Monk to the required level, using the three fill lines located next to the internal light as a guide (low, medium and high). If you’re unsure, we recommend the lowest level to avoid displacement – you can easily top it up after your first plunge once you’ve seen how high the water rises upon submersion.
c. Then turn off the tap, and you’re done!
3. Plug in your Monk
Once Monk is full, you can plug it into an outlet with a dedicated 240v / 13A domestic power source. You must use the RCD lead provided.
If you place your Monk outside and use an extension cord, you will need to use a Weatherproof Connection Box and ensure the power cord is suitable for outdoor use. If you’re unsure, please consult an electrician.
4. Turning on your Monk
a. Locate the two buttons on the RCD power lead that say “test” and “reset”
b. Run this test the first time Monk is plugged in: press “reset” and the indicator light should turn red. Then push the “test” button and the indicator should turn black. Do not proceed if this does not occur, and contact Monk
c. Press the “reset” button to turn Monk on. You should see the lights and display panel turn on and hear the chiller power up
d. In 60 seconds, the display panel will show the current water temperature and it will start cooling down to 3°C by default, unless you change the temperature
5. Sync your Monk
Unlock brilliant features by connecting your Monk to the Monk app.
a. Firstly, download the Monk app from App Store or Google Play store and set up your profile. NB: For pre-order customers, you should have received an email invite to our beta Monk app. Contact support@discovermonk.com if you have any issues receiving this email.
b. Click the three dot icon in the top right corner, and click ‘My Monk’ from the menu.
c. Click setup, and then scan or enter your Monk’s unique serial number. You’ll find this by removing the hatch at the back of Monk, and locating the label on your cooling unit inside.
d. Your Monk may ask for a unique pairing code to complete your setup. If this is required, please enter 998877.
